Parents choose the life partner for their children – Marathis believe in arranged marriage

There are different cultures in India and each of them depicts different colours. Every religion has their customs and traditions for marriage. Do you come from a Maharashtrain family? If yes, then marriages in your caste are conducted in a simple way. The Maharashtrian culture is the blending of Dravidian and Aryan culture. As such, there is the influence of northern and southern India in marriage customs as well as food habits. In the Marathi Matrimony, the marriage customs are called sacraments. The Marathi marriages are held during the day since this is believed to be the best time for them.
The marriages are done in the same caste. They strongly believe in arrange marriage and as such, it is the parents who search for the life partner of their son/daughter. The Maharashtrians strongly believe that it is marriage that actually binds two people together for seven lives. A wedding association brings the two families together and makes husband and wife believe in marriage. The relatives and friends of both the families come in the marriage party and bless the couple for a happy married life. You may become a paid member of some matrimony sites in order to enjoy Marathi Matrimonial services.
Marathi Bride – What she wears during marriage?
On the marriage day, the bride wears bottle green sari which is decorated in Marathi style. There are designs of silver and gold threads in the sari and have embellished golden borders. Some brides even wear green Kanchipuram sari during the wedding. This gives an elegant look to the Maharashtrian bride.
The bride’s hair is tied in the form of a bun and is decorated with jasmine flowers. The Marathi brides usually wear simple jewellery during the marriage. The bottle green sari is decorated with strings of pearl. The bride wears thin strings of pearl on her forehead and a necklace of pearls and gold. She wears a nose ring of gold which is studded with nine pearls. The ear-ring that the bride wears has seven pearls. The bride wears gold bangles and a complete set of green bangles during her wedding. It indicates the symbol of the marital status of bride. She also wears waist band that is made of gold and silver ring on her toe.
Marathi groom – What he wears on the wedding day?
The groom wears a traditional dhoti that is either white or off-white in colour. He wears pearl beads around his neck and golden rings in the fingers. He keeps a large cloth piece on his right shoulder and this cloth is tied with the bride's sari when they take the seven steps and the bride and the groom promises each other of being together forever.
Both the bride and the groom put henna on their palms. This is a symbol of fruitfulness and wealth. The customs and traditions that the Marathis follow are the same like the other Hindu marriages.
