The
Gujarati people are known for their simplicity. Marriages in Gujarat are
usually arranged where the parents of the boy and the girl chooses the partner.
If you want, you may register with Gujarati Matrimony and ask your parents to find a suitable partner for you over
there. The marriages are colorful with dance and music. The first ritual is called
Mandap Mahurat in which the family members of the bride go to the groom's house
to fix the marriage date. In order to do so, they consult a Pundit. The marriage
starts in the morning and ends before night.
Once
the marriage date is finalized, there is a Griha Shanti puja organized in the
bride’s and the groom’s house. The family members pray for a happy married life
of their children. In the evening, the women wear traditional dress or lehenga
and garba dance is performed in the wedding. This dance continues for several
hours and everyone enjoys it to the utmost. Before the wedding day, the bride
puts mehandi on both the hands and this is usually done by her friends and
relatives. You may take up paid membership in the matrimony sites to enjoy Gujarati Matrimonial services.
At
the marriage day, the bride as well as the groom puts besan and haldi. Then both
of them take bath and wear their wedding dress. The bride wears golden or red coloured
saree by tradition, however many brides wear lehenga these days. On the other
hand, the groom wears dhoti kurta and some even wear shervaani and suit. The baraat
comes at the wedding place and the marriage takes place in late evening. The
groom then enters the marriage hall and the bride’s mother does aarti to the
groom. Then the groom touches the mother-in-laws feet to take her blessing. In
the meantime, the mother-in-law will try her best to pull the groom’s nose.
This adds some kind of enjoyment and fun in the marriage.
The
groom has to sit for the puja and the bride comes with a garland. Finally, both
of them exchange garland and this is called jaimala. Then, the Mahuparka ritual
is performed in which the groom's feet gets washed with milk and water. The
groom is given a drink of honey and milk. The bride’s sisters steal the shoe of
the groom and gives it back only when the groom agrees to gift something to
them.
The
bride and the groom sit together and the pundit narrates the hymns before the
fire and sprinkle oil and rice. The bride’s father performs the Kanyadaan by
placing the groom's and the bride's hand and then pour water on it. This
signifies that it is the responsibility of the groom to look after and care for
their daughter. The bride’s sister-in-law ties the knot of the bride and the
groom after which they have to take seven rounds called saat phere around the
fire. The groom puts sindoor in the hair of the bride and this symbolizes that
the bride is married. The couple touches the feet of the elders and takes their
blessings for a happy married life. Thus, with the help of Gujarati Matrimonial sites, it has become much easier to search for
